The end of Summer Event was hosted by Integral Youth Services, with the conjoint effort of members in the Child Hunger Coalition. It took place on August 25th 2020 at Mills-Kiwanis Park. We served over 265 meals to children, but had closer to 300 people show up for resources.
Participating partners include: OSU Extension Office, the YMCA, Blue Zone Project, Healthy Klamath, Sky Lakes Foundation, Mills Neighborhood Association, SMART Reading, the IYS HELP Program and Food Program, Klamath County Library, Klamath County School District, and KLCAS.
During this event, we surveyed 72 families, of which 78.1% claimed they felt worried they may run out of food before they are able to purchase more, and 52% claimed they had actually ran out of food before they were able to buy more.
Having this data about the food insecurity in the area will help the Child Hunger Coalition and IYS be able to begin new programs and implementing steps to combat the food insecurity of the area. “The End of Summer event was such a good way for our partners and us to come together for the community while learning more about who we are helping and discovering new ways to implement more resources. This was definitely a successful event and we hope to have more like the End of Summer event in the future.” says Taylor Hampton, Outreach Manager for IYS.
