The Summer Work Crew is a youth employment program offered to youth ages 14-21. The program lasts eight weeks in the summer, and helps to provide youth with experience in hiring and job skills they will use in the future. These skills include but are not limited to:
There are finer details to each of these that the youth will learn, from how to fill out different forms such as a W-4, what the proper identification jobs require before starting is, and proper work ethic such as showing up on time, dressed accordingly, and ready work with a team. Work crew members will also be responsible for following all on-site job duties as required depending upon the site.
There are currently three crews running with the potential to have more in the future. Each crew consists of 4-5 team members and one crew leader. Our crew leaders experience extensive training through the Oregon Youth Conservation Corp training camps.
The crews are also trained in CPR and First Aid, and work closely with community partners which currently include:
The most rewarding part of this program is watching the youth gain the confidence and knowledge to be able to go out into the work field and become a viable working asset to society.
