offering HOPE to youth, providing for their needs and mentoring toward positive choices and healthy relationships
Independent Living Program

INDEPENDENT LIVING

The Independent Living Program is designed to help young people in Klamath County become self-sufficient. Most of the youth are transitioning from foster care, but we also work with a small number of homeless youth. We hope to help these young adults improve their chances at becoming successful adult citizens. Youth are given encouragement and the support that they need to complete their high school diploma or general education diploma. Youth are encouraged to enroll in college, vocational programs such as Job Corps, or become gainfully employed, and guided in the process to find a safe and stable place to live.

The Independent Living Program Coordinator provide one-on-one mentoring and group classes to help youth grow.

The focus areas are:

Personal Growth and Social Development
Family Support and Healthy Relationships
Health Education & Risk Prevention
High School Skills/Support
Post-Secondary Skills/Support
Employment & Career Preparation
Money Management
Family Supports and Healthy Relationships
Health Education and Risk Prevention
Housing and Home Management
Transportation and Other Living Skills

I.L.P. Staff and volunteer speakers present information in these focus areas to youth in the form of curriculum, classes and workshops. Case management that is youth driven provides ongoing transition planning for the youth’s success.
